Parlick Grid Challenge Leaderboard

The grid challenge has, after over four years, finally been completed. Phil Colbert took almost two hours on a day with a 2700' cloudbase to get round all 15 cylinders in order.

The challenge remains open for anyone wishing to enter - this is primarily a personal challenge and an instrument/competition/navigation coaching tool.

There are 15 scoring cylinders in a grid formation in Parlick west bowl (shown below). Click here to get the waypoints in XC Planner - you can download them from there to your PC, then to your instrument. Each is centred on the middle of an OS Grid square. To get on the leaderboard, simply visit as many cylinders as possible in numerical order in a single flight, then send your igc file to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Your score will be the highest number you reached. You must record at least one trackpoint inside each cylinder for it to count.

NEW RULE FOR 2017 SEASON: if you score 8 or more AND make it back past the western edge of cylinders 1-3, you get a bonus half point. So if you land in cylinder 11, you score 11, but if you make it to 11 then get back to the hill, you score 11.5.

Note: where scores are equal, the most recent flight is highest. So if someone equals your score... they're beating you, until you can do that score again... or better.

The PGC is an ongoing challenge with no time limits and no closing date as such (although there is a prize each season for the best score by a Pennine member up to October 31st), and is open to anyone - you do not need to be a member of the Pennine Soaring Club to participate. Obviously if you're going to be flying our sites regularly we'd prefer to have as a member, but visitors are welcome to give the PGC a go - get your waypoints from the email address above, and good luck.
