Note: I have noticed that on some occasions this page may need to be refreshed to make the compass rose and other elements display properly - apologies for any inconvenience, I'll look into it - Webmaster
2007/10/05 - Update - I've now reworked some of the positioning "logic", so the labels and segments should all work properly (well, they do in IE and Firefox!) - please let me know if you're still having problems. Also, I noticed the KMZ (Google Earth) and MapSource downloads were broken, they should now be working.

Other Sites In The PSC Area - THESE ARE NOT CLUB SITES
The following are sites that have fallen into disuse, they are included for information only and the club does not advise or condone their use.
Hameldon
OS Ref:
SD 806 291 (Sheet 103)
Wind:
NNW - NNE (clockwise)
Height ASL:
1310ft (399m)
Top - Bottom:
488ft (149m)
Directions:
Take the A56(T) out of Rawtenstall or Burnley to the reservoir at Clowridge. Between a row of terraces and an old school building is a narrow track up the hill. The gate half way up is chained, so you will have to walk from there. Parking is tight
Airspace:
Manchester TMA 3500ft alt, 2200ft ato, (670m ato).
Notes:
The landowner is believed to fly a helicopter and is known to be unfriendly towards free-flyers, so beware. This is a fairly small ridge which offers good flying especially for paragliders. Top landing is big despite the masts. Take off at either end of the quarry faces where the hill is rounded and there is less likelihood of rotor. The ridge face is a bit craggy and vertical in places causing some turbulence. Bottom landing is decidedly tricky as all the land slopes away. Modern hang gliders will have particular problems.
Restrictions:
No permission to use the site exists at time of writing although locals do use it.
XC Potential:
Soon into Manchester CTR
Rivington
OS Ref:
SD 642 148 (Sheet 109)
Wind:
NW
Height ASL:
1000ft (300m)
Directions:
Turn off the minor road mid-way between Belmont and Rivington at SD 652 158 up a narrow stone track
Access: Park at the gateway.
Airspace:
Manchester TMA 3500ft (1066m)alt. 2300ft (700m) ato
Safety:
Watch out for the modellers. They have been known to somewhat protective of what is officially their site!
Notes:
Take off from above the road only. The modellers have an exclusive agreement with the landowner to use the take off below the road.
Paragliders:
Probably too shallow for paragliders unless thermic. The modellers' take off below the road works well, but it is at their discretion; they have a formal agreement to use the site. It's hardly worth the bother frankly.
Restrictions:
We do not have permission to use the site and bottom landing will meet with hostility. The site was used on weekdays only and was restricted to 3 gliders when models are present. Don't even think about it during lambing around March/April/May.
