Simon Hulme is a Royal Air Force veteran and fighter pilot who retired in 2022 after a career spanning more than 34 years. His early flying was as in the Air Training Corps flying Chipmunks and Venture motor gliders, he completed a flying scholarship at age 17 and joined the RAF aged 18. His operational flying career was on the Tornado GR1/4 initially based in Germany although his flying career has taken him as far afield as Australia and Alaska. After 15 years flying Tornados he ventured into the training world flying Hawk T1s from RAF Valley. After 8 years of staff appointments that finished with a tour as a military diplomat in Ottawa he returned to flying as a Reserve forces officer flying the Hawk T2 at RAF Valley. He has over 5000 hours of flying, the vast majority on  fighter aircraft.
